For venues, that meant lost dwell time and lost sales. The clients wanted something useful, authentic-looking and fun: a station-style departures board that made travel decisions easier without feeling like a dry utility screen. What we built ------------- A reusable live departures display originally built for Hummel UK and Laine Pub Company. It used the National Rail SOAP API for live departures, Google traffic and route planning to estimate whether a visitor could still reach the station, and BrightSign devices for screen deployment. Setup was handled through URL query parameters, so a screen only needed an address, a station code and an orientation option for horizontal or vertical displays. Refresh rates were handled in environment configuration rather than a separate admin panel. The Result ---------- Clients got a polished, authentic station-board experience that was genuinely useful on venue and office screens. Visitors could make better travel decisions, fewer trains were missed, and people could comfortably stay for another drink instead of leaving too early. What the platform does ---------------------- Shows live station departures on client screens in a display styled to feel like a real station board. Combines National Rail live departure data with Google traffic and route planning. Highlights whether someone can still get from the venue or office to the station in time. Runs on BrightSign screen deployments with horizontal or vertical orientation options. Uses URL query parameters for address and station-code setup, with refresh timing controlled by environment configuration. > "Our live departure board is great!
